Following the cancellation of racing for all classes on Day 2 of Cowes Week the crews turned out for Dday3 on the RYS line for their start on Mondayjust before midday. It was a clean start with a beat to windward and leading to some tactical racing by playing the shifts while making the most of the strong, favourable ebbing tide. At the first mark, Salt Mead, was Shadowfax (David Rolfe) who lead the fleet around closely followed by Prospero (Alan Fraser) and Workout (Jeff Worboys) before returning to East Lepe.
After a reach across the Solent to the northern shore it was another beat down the Solent towards Powder Byrne before returning to the RYS Line for the finish under spinnaker. There was a choice as to which sign of the Solent and at which point to cross the tide over to the Island shore and it was Kerry Jeanne (Gary Bowers) who had worked up fleet to be in contention with Shadowfax. It was great racing as there was just over a minute between 1st and 3rd positions after nearly three hours of racing.
